Jul på Læsø

Monday, December 29th, 2008

Multi Cache

At first we didn’t have a clue about what to look for. Then we realized what the hint meant, and we looked a little further down the path where we found the thing described in the hint. :D We searched the thing for a very long time but never found anything leading to the next waypoint. :-(
Anyways, we had fun exploring the thing and taking pictures.
Searched with Avatarius and gave up at 10.30.

Fandt den Forgotten darkness 2 (GC14JPE) - #864
Traditional Cache

How weird that there’s such a deep hole right here in the middle of nowhere. It was very steep and slippery but we found our way down without falling. Cool that there’s a tunnel there. Is it a part of the old Charlie railway? I wanted to go in and discover where the tunnel go, but we didn’t bring a head torch, and it was very muddy in there, so we just went in a bit. We found the cache easily and headed back up. That was easier than going down. Thanks for a great cache. I took a Unite for Diabetes TB.

Fandt den Silvester-Cache (GC13H8Y) - #865

We searched a bit for this before we found it. Cool cache container. :) Happy New Year!
Found with Avatarius at 11.50.

Fandt den Library-Cache (GC10K66) - #866
Traditional Cache

We found the cache easily. Unfortunately the cache was wet inside. Perhaps an ammobox would be better suited for a cache like this? Plastic bags around caches doesn’t keep water out - They only keep water in and make the cache smelly. Some of the books were in zip lock bags - They were dry. But some were wrapped in normal plastic bags - They were soaking wet.
Thanks for the cache, cool idea. We didn’t trade any books.

Fandt den Walfer #1 (GCZWR9) - #867
Traditional Cache

Near the monument, a couple were sitting at the table drinking coffee. So we went for a walk in the woods and saw lizards and other small animals. Then we came back and the muggles were gone, so we could easily find and log the cache.
Found with Avatarius at 13.20.

Fandt den Bommeleer Attack # 2 (GCXQ17) - #868

This was the last cache we found on our Luxembourg vacation. I have never heard about the Bommeleer before. It is an interesting story, thanks for sharing it, and thanks for the cache.

Fandt den SchmuelSpuer I - Becher Gare (GC132N0) - #859
Multi Cache

We were staying 2 nights at the campsite in Becher. We decided to look for this multi, though our German skills are very limited. The first part went fine. No problems. But then we had to count the “senkrechten streben” or something like that. I still have no idea what it means, but Avtarius guessed the number, and we found the cache. Thanks for the tour and the cache.

Fandt den St Geo (GCJPCJ) - #860
Traditional Cache

Thanks for a wonderful walk in this beautiful forest.
Reception was very poor and we didn’t understand the hint, so first we searched between the stream and the bicycle path. Then I thought about where I would hide a cache there, and bingo: there it was. While we were logging we saw the bridge and understood the hint.

A very cool place we would never have discovered without geocaching. I love caves, and this cave was cool. :D We spent a lot of time looking for the right cave. And when we got in, we spent even longer looking for the cache and to examine the cave. Though it wasn’t a very warm day, it felt hot when we got back out. Thanks for a great cache.

We had a lot of fun solving and finding the all the Bugwees. It was a bit sad that this was the last. But it was a great ending. It is a pretty impressive night cache with a quite lot of fireflies. Thanks a lot for the whole Bugwee series. We loved every bit of it. Oh, but one more thing. What does Bugwee mean?

We found WP1 and WP2 easily. But we could’t find WP3. We searched for about 15 minutes, then some muggle cars arrived and we decided to give up and go back to our car, because we might look a bit suspicious at this time, walking around searching with our head torches. Back in the car we took a look at the calculation, and we found out that we could solve it without WP3 and WP4.

Fandt den Bugwee 4 - Seejomes (GC126MQ) - #842
Mystery Cache

Easy mystery but it wasn’t easy to find the cache. Thanks to the hint, we did find it, though. Then we stayed and searched for the Cistes, and after about 15 minutes we found that too. :) Cool we have never found a Cistes before, but we don’t know which one it is or how to log it.
Found with Avatarius at 10.50.

Mystery Cache

Another cool dangerous place. :) Easy to find thanks to the spoilerpic.
Found with Avatarius at 11.40.

Fandt den 4 Elements : Earth (GC144H5) - #844
Traditional Cache

We started at the wrong path. We didn’t see the right one, but only a small overgrown path, and it looked close enough to the additional waypoint from the car, so we chose to start there. If we had looked closer to the gps and walked to the exact location of the additional waypoint, we would have seen it, and our walk would have been much easier.
We followed the path that got more and more overgrown for every step we took. It was raining and our everything was wet. We tried all the even smaller and more overgrown side paths and got closer to the cache, but there was always over 100 meters of very high fern, thorny bushes and other evil plants between us and the cache.
Then we decided to take the direct way anyways, and we had to fight our way through the thorns. Ouch! But we got through, only to find the great, big, nice and comfortable path that we were supposed to have been on to begin with. Doh! Oh well, we had fun. And when we got closer to the cache we saw why this cache is called Earth. What a cool sight with all the red mud. :D
Found with Avatarius at 13.20.

Fandt den ikke Randschelt (GC1EC4X)

Interesting tiny village. And a lovely little church.
Unfortunately we couldn’t find the cache. We searched for about 10-15 minutes, and then gave up because we had looked all the obvious places, and didn’t want to turn over any stones or in any other way harm the nice place. A hint would have been nice.
Searched with Avatarius, and gave up at 14.10.

Fandt den The cellar (GC1C12C) - #845
Traditional Cache

Very cool cache. It had just rained and the whole place was very muddy. We were happy that we were wearing rain gear, because when we got up from the hole, we were soaked in mud. Inside the cellar there were lots of huge cave spiders and their tear shaped egg sacs hanging everywhere in there. Very cool (and a little bit scary).

Fandt den Bugwee 1 - Kiewerlek (GC126M0) - #834
Mystery Cache

This was one of the most difficult Bugwees. I had a lot of good ideas about how to solve it, but they didn’t work. Then an evening after I went to bed, another idea came to me. I had to get up and see if it worked… And it did. Yay!
When we parked our car near the cache, we looked in the direction of the cache. It looked very private and we didn’t want to go there. We thought that maybe we got the coordinates wrong. But then we found a parking area around the corner, not as close to the cache, but with a nice path leading directly to the cache. :D It took us some time to find the cache - it is well hidden. Thanks for the cache.

Fandt den Extremely well camouflaged cache # 3 (GC1AHX5) - #835

Fandt den ikke Extremely well camouflaged cache # 4 (GC1AHX7)
Traditional Cache

Avatarius and I searched for this cache for about 1½ hours, but didn’t find it. We searched every tree, branch, plant and on the ground within 30 meters of the coordinates, several times. Event went further away and looked but we didn’t find anything but leaves, plants and empty beer bottles.

A woman on a horse stopped on the path and asked me about something, but I couldn’t hear what she was saying because of the noise from the road. For a moment I was hoping she knew about the cache and where it was. But I never found out if she was speaking German, Dutch or Luxembourgish, or what she was trying to say, because when I walked down the hill to be able to hear her, she waved goodbye and rode away.

Fandt den Extremely well camouflaged cache # 1 (GC1AHWQ) - #836

Fandt den Extremely well camouflaged cache # 2 (GC1AHX2) - #838
Traditional Cache

There had been a lot of foresting in the area: All the lower branches and small trees were cut down and were scattered on the ground. We found the camouflaged cache on the ground near a tree. It was open and the logbook was soaking wet. We carefully pulled it out, but it was falling apart. So we took pictures of the logbook and placed a new piece of paper with our names on it, and tried to hide the cache where we thought it might have been.

Fandt den Bugwee 9 - Wuerm (GC1312R) - #839

Yet another very cool mystery. At first I had some ideas that didn’t work, but suddenly I saw the solution. And like all the other Bugwees, it was also a very cool cache location. We had fun looking around the place and sat down and ate chocolate and took a lot of pictures. Thanks for the cache.

Anyways… it was a kind of cool cache, though it wasn’t pretty.

Fandt den Beim Wiederhaischen (GC1BE7X) - #819
Traditional Cache - af Nijura.lu

This was our first cache on our vacation in Luxembourg. We had planned to stay at a camp site, but our bags with tent and sleeping bags were not on the plane, so we had to find a hotel for the night instead. We decided to drive north east and luckily we had our GPSr and PDA in my handbaggage, so we could find some geocaches on the way.
This is a nice area, we liked the long bridge. We did notice the cache description print-out in the cache, but we thought that the cache owner had placed it there to make sure everyone had another chance of reading the description., which we thought was a neat idea since it’s easier to read paper than a text on a pda.

Næsten klar til rejsen

Friday, August 8th, 2008

Læsø -> Fyn

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008
